Class Seventeen : Turtle position in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Attacking.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Fundamentals Program of Science of Jiu Jitsu Team developed by professor Mario Rodríguez

Summary

In this class we work on the principles and strategies for attacking from the turtle  in brazilian jiu jitsu.

Concepts for control and for generating attack opportunities:

  • Not being in front of the opponent (only in case you want to establish headlocks)
  • Its better controlling the opponents hip from the rear and in lateral angle.
  • Dangers of putting deep grips (sweeps or attacks)
  • Problems for attacking the turtle and how to generate opportunities : the need of working in the unbalancing (knee twist and diagonal pull).
  • Understanding how the previous movement allows us to access the arms and neck or taking the opponents back.

Some submissions from the turtle:

  • Clock choke
  • Crucifix
  • Armbar.
